The Men’s section at the Masterton Golf Club presents a strong and vibrant part of the Club’s weekly golfing schedule.
Thursday sees many members come together just before midday for a semi-competitive round of golf which is sponsored by the local New World Supermarket. This Thursday Club attracts between 20 and 50 golfers each Thursday and is always followed by a jovial social gathering in the Club House afterwards.
On Friday and on Sunday, for those who are less competitive, there is a very active and very social group of golfers who meet for a round which tees off at midday. It’s a great day to interact with other members because cards are shuffled to select playing Fours. Before too long you’ll meet and enjoy the company of all our social players.
Saturday brings out the serious golfers but the day also accommodates all members of whatever handicap by splitting the field up into two Handicap Groups. Between 30 and 60 members are drawn randomly into fours and compete for the weekly honour of being Player of the Day. Every week the competition is different with Stableford, Par and Stroke play rounds being played off Blue and White tees. And, of course, afterwards there is plenty of banter to be heard in the Club House as the results of the day are awaited at the 5pm announcements.
And for those that like to test their skill against others on other club courses, the Men’s Match Committee enters teams in the Wellington Regional Interclub Competitionsand the Wairarapa District Marquis Shield Competition. Within a couple of years of Interclub Golf you will have played on every course in the greater Wellington Region.
And as with every club, there are many prestigious Club Championships which are played for across the entire season. Match Play, Stroke Play, Foursomes, Four ball and mixed championships abound. You name it – there is a trophy to be won.
There is something for everyone in Men’s Golf at the Masterton Golf Club.
