2018 Moore Stephens Markhams 18-hole Women’s Shootout
The 19 qualifying women teed off on Tuesday morning (20 November) in cool, cloudy conditions. Rain had been threatening but held off for the event, fortunately. Golf was the winner on the day, as they say, with players being very focused and making some brilliant shots.
Sereana Phillipps eagled the 9th hole. Margot Barton (who played in a shootout for the first time) chipped in at No. 9 to save her bacon, eventually going out on the 12th. Jeanette McNae made a spectacular shot out of the fairway bunker on No.12 to land near the pin. Sereana and Jenni Johnston had a downhill chip-out on the 13th; Sereana left hers well short which must have psyched Jenni into thinking she had a chance. But her ball caught the slope and away it went.
Shirley Saunders went out on the 16th, and Cindy Giles on the 17th (they both played very steadily as the day wore on). Marilyn Strang and Carolyn Stevenson played shot for shot down the 18th – a wonderful display of golfing prowess! They were both on the green for 4, and Carolyn sunk her putt to be crowned the winner of the day.
The day wound up our golfing year on a high note – wonderful camaraderie and sportsmanship amongst the players, and much appreciated support from our volunteers and the gallery. Again, a big thank you to our sponsor Moore Stephens Markham.
