The Life Education Trust Tournament is undoubtedly a popular event, always well run and traditionally providing, an excellent prize table.  This year’s event, held at Lansdowne last Friday, was no exception with a full field enjoying the conditions and the after match goodwill arising from this very worthy charitable cause.

Sports Report: 25th August 2010

 

The combination of a pleasant day and an interesting new format probably accounted for the big increase in numbers competing in the men’s Sellar Trophy last Saturday.  While the Sellar itself is separate from the Men’s Club Championship, to compete in the latter, golfers must have taken part in the stroke play section, which is the Sellar.  Of the four divisions the Senior and Intermediates were over 36 holes, while the Juniors and Masters just play one round.

No doubt by the time this article is published the exact details of that astonishing finish to the US PGA will have been well and truly dissected and analysed.  However, I guess I have to have something to say about such an intriguing outcome.

Sports Report: 11th August 2010

 

There will be many golfers in Masterton who don't realise that the town once had three golf clubs (not counting Solway) more or less within its boundaries.  The third course was Riverside, which was situated off Colombo Road about where the netball complex is located.  Today, not a trace remains of what was once a thriving, and very lively golf club.  There are still a few older identities around today, Owen Henson for one, who can claim to have been members of Riverside.

Sports Report: 28th July 2010

 Although this is not the wettest winter I have experienced in my 40 or so years in Masterton, it certainly must rank as one of the dampest in recent years. Back in the late 70's, I think it may have been 1977, there was a very long drawn out wet spell, when we had very few fine days during the whole of the schools' winter term.
